[QuickTacBeta] QuickTacBeta Digest, Vol 2, Issue 1

Hello,

I'm sorry about the delayed response.

Either DBT 10.6 or DBT 10.5 should be able to read a file from QuickTac,
provided that you save files from QuickTac in .SIG format. (Don't save in
the default format; that will require a future version of DBT.)

DBT 10.6 does improve graphics support for Enabling embossers. So if you're
able to get the graphics image in, and it shows on-screen, but doesn't
emboss properly, then this may be an issue that is resolved in DBT 10.6.

You don't have a choice for Low resolution because the Juliet Classic
doesn't support such a graphics mode. This, as you've discovered, leaves
you with two choices, neither one of which is optimal for braille text. The
High resolution mode is particularly bad for braille. Unfortunately, with
QuickTac as it now stands, there is no way to improve that. We do plan to
improve the situation, but this will require considerable development and
will still leave you facing other tradeoffs. I'll elaborate more if you or
others on the list are interested.

- Peter

Hi,

I've try to emboss from Juliet Classic (by parallel port) it work but the
braille is to small. When the resolution is High, it's smaller than with the
medium. We don't have the choice for Low resolution. Is there a way to
emboss braille to the right format?

Also, do we need Duxbury 10,6 to work with Quick tac? It didn't work with
Duxbury 10,5.

Thanks!

Hello,

I talked briefly with Tim Connell about that at CSUN last month. I'd
certainly like to add support for the Mountbatten. But I don't have one at
my disposal. Are you willing to try out what might be quite flawed software
if I were to begin to add Mountbatten support?

Best Regards,

Peter

Hi,

I have "imported" a color bmp to QuickTac. My question is if I had a
ViewPlus Emprint would the color be printed out also?

Thanks.

Best,
Lisa

Hello Lisa,

I just don't know about that. The intent is that it wouldn't. You should
be controlling only the tactile dimension of the printout. (There is a
separate facility for control of a printed background, but this is disabled
for now.)

However, I really don't know how an Emprint will respond to an attempt to
print such an image.

Best Regards,

Peter

Hi,
How do I get access to questions answered on this list?

I've successfully embossed sig files to a Juliet Classic (parallel), through
the C prompt using print or copy command. Have tried to emboss to Juliet
from QuickTac, but did not work. If this is a repeat of a question, I
apologize. Just copy the old response. Thanks.

Hello,

If you're looking for answers to questions previously posted, you can always
check the archives at:

http://mailserver.duxsys.com/pipermail/quicktacbeta/

But I don't mind answering repeats. It gives me a sense of what is
important. And, in any case, I don't think that you'll find anything
helpful on this topic in the archives.

Can you tell me something about what *did* happen when you tried to emboss
to the Juliet directly?

- Peter
