[QuickTacBeta] Questions

Hello Marshall,

I'm sorry about the delay getting back to you.

The issues you raise have not in fact been dicussed on the list previously.
I'll endeavor to answer your questions. Where there is an implied request
for a feature, rest assured that I've taken note of it.

1. I'm unable to replicate any problem pasting images from QT3. But in
truth, I find that the Paste command is disabled after I've copied something
from QT3. Copying images from QT3 is not something that we'd previously
anticipated supporting, but I'll see what I can do.

2. There is no "move" command as in QT3. Impractical as it may be, cut and
paste is the only way to achieve the same result in QT4.

3. There is no preview functionality in QT4 to use while selecting a
document to open. Perhaps you can tell me whether the full-size preview is
required to meet your needs -- or would a "thumbnail" preview suffice?

4. If 100% and 200% are too large, what do you suggest would be "about
right"?

5. There is no "edit" functionality in QT4 directly analogous to that in
QT3. Indeed it it was a deliberate goal to eliminate "modalities" such as
this from the product. I'm also puzzled in this case because "edit" appears
to me to be very much like QT4's "View 100%" function. But QT4's "View
100%" is challenging to use and QT3's "edit" is easy. Is the difference
that QT3 allows you to zoom in on a particular area of the drawing more
quickly and to revert to "full page" view with a single keystroke?

6. I am not aware of any "Cursor Position Ruler" feature in QT3. Do you
mean the "X=" and "Y=" display that is continuously updated on screen as you
move the cursor over the document editing area? If not, can you please tell
me a bit more about this feature?

7. I assume that when you ask "Is there a way to get 40 cells in QT3" you
mean "... as in QT3". This is one case where I missed something quite
important before rolling out beta 1. The braille tool does indeed wrap text
to fit the physical size of the edit window into which you key the braille.
This is a mistake. It has been fixed, but I've been slow to get the fix out
to beta testing. The fix will be in Beta 2. But I'm trying, before
releasing a beta 2, also to gather more information about embosser support
in order to improve that and avoid an additional round of beta testing.

8. There is presently no way to rotate graphics.

Best Regards,

Peter

Subject: [QuickTacBeta] Questions

My apologies to the list,
the following have probably already been mentioned or discussed. This
is a list that my transcribers have come up with.

>When a file is copied from QT3, an error message shows and the program
shuts down. The error usually shows when someone tries to cut and paste
some items. It seems to happen more often when the cursor goes off the
viewing screen.

>Is there any way of previewing existing files without having to completely
open them up as done in QT3?

>Is there any way to move text or images around with a "move" command as it
is done in QT3? Cutting and pasting is not very practical and it is quite
difficult to place text and images in the correct place. Them move command
is the most important feature.

>The use of the cursor keys is also very beneficial in moving items and
getting spacing done correctly with the "move" command in QT3.

>Is there any way to enlarge the viewing screen just a little bit in
>QT4? One hundred and two hundred percent is way to big. (I understand
>the reason for the expanded view and will remind them about it, the
>first part of the question is still valid - MB)

>Is there an edit selection as in QT3? Trying to edit in one hundred and
two hundred is quite a challenge.

>Is there a cursor position ruler as in QT3? The grid tends to make the
screen very busy and hard to see the format of the text.

>Is there a way to get forty cells in QT3?

>Is there a way to rotate the graphics?
